Helping university students to choose elective courses by using a hybrid multi-criteria recommendation system with genetic optimization

no code implementations13 Feb 2024 A. Esteban, A. Zafra, C. Romero

The wide availability of specific courses together with the flexibility of academic plans in university studies reveal the importance of Recommendation Systems (RSs) in this area.

Text mining in education

no code implementations11 Feb 2024 R. Ferreira-Mello, M. Andre, A. Pinheiro, E. Costa, C. Romero

The explosive growth of online education environments is generating a massive volume of data, specially in text format from forums, chats, social networks, assessments, essays, among others.

Process mining for self-regulated learning assessment in e-learning

no code implementations11 Feb 2024 R. Cerezo, A. Bogarin, M. Esteban, C. Romero

We applied a new algorithm in the educational domain called Inductive Miner over the interaction traces from 101 university students in a course given over one semester on the Moodle 2. 0 platform.

Model Discovery

Modeling and predicting students' engagement behaviors using mixture Markov models

no code implementations10 Feb 2024 R. Maqsood, P. Ceravolo, C. Romero, S. Ventura

A pre-requirement for stimulating student engagement lies in the capability to have an approximate representation model for comprehending students' varied (dis)engagement behaviors.

Subgroup Discovery in MOOCs: A Big Data Application for Describing Different Types of Learners

no code implementations10 Feb 2024 J. M. Luna, H. M. Fardoun, F. Padillo, C. Romero, S. Ventura

Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed MapReduce approach outperforms traditional sequential subgroup discovery approaches, achieving a runtime that is almost constant for different courses.

Descriptive Subgroup Discovery

Improving prediction of students' performance in intelligent tutoring systems using attribute selection and ensembles of different multimodal data sources

no code implementations10 Feb 2024 W. Chango, R. Cerezo, M. Sanchez-Santillan, R. Azevedo, C. Romero

The aim of this study was to predict university students' learning performance using different sources of data from an Intelligent Tutoring System.

Educational data mining and learning analytics: An updated survey

no code implementations10 Feb 2024 C. Romero, S. Ventura

This survey is an updated and improved version of the previous one published in 2013 in this journal with the title data mining in education.

Decision Making

Multi-source and multimodal data fusion for predicting academic performance in blended learning university courses

no code implementations8 Feb 2024 W. Chango, R. Cerezo, C. Romero

The results showed that the best predictions were produced using ensembles and selecting the best attributes approach with discretized data.

Here, we present the first results from the Galactic Star Formation with NIKA2 (GASTON) project, a Large Programme at the IRAM 30-m telescope which is mapping $\approx$2 deg$^2$ of the inner Galactic plane (GP), centred on $\ell$=23. 9$^\circ$, $b$=0. 05$^\circ$, as well as targets in Taurus and Ophiuchus in 1. 15 and 2. 00 mm continuum wavebands.
