The impact of common envelope development criteria on the formation of LIGO/Virgo sources

no code implementations10 Feb 2021 Aleksandra Olejak, Krzysztof Belczynski, Natalia Ivanova

CE is even considered by some as a mandatory phase in the formation of BH-BH, BH-NS or NS-NS mergers in binary evolution.

BSE versus StarTrack: implementations of new wind, remnant-formation, and natal-kick schemes in NBODY7 and their astrophysical consequences

1 code implementation20 Feb 2019 Sambaran Banerjee, Krzysztof Belczynski, Christopher L. Fryer, Peter Berczik, Jarrod R. Hurley, Rainer Spurzem, Long Wang

We find that the SN material fallback causes the convection-asymmetry kick to effectively retain similar number and mass of BHs in clusters as for the standard, momentum-conserving kick.

Multiband gravitational-wave event rates and stellar physics

1 code implementation31 Jan 2019 Davide Gerosa, Sizheng Ma, Kaze W. K. Wong, Emanuele Berti, Richard O'Shaughnessy, Yanbei Chen, Krzysztof Belczynski

We use population synthesis simulations of isolated binary stars to explore some of the stellar physics that could be constrained with multiband events, and we show that specific formation pathways might be overrepresented in multiband events compared to ground-only detections.

Spin orientations of merging black holes formed from the evolution of stellar binaries

2 code implementations7 Aug 2018 Davide Gerosa, Emanuele Berti, Richard O'Shaughnessy, Krzysztof Belczynski, Michael Kesden, Daniel Wysocki, Wojciech Gladysz

We study the expected spin misalignments of merging binary black holes (BHs) formed in isolation by combining state-of-the-art population synthesis models with efficient post-Newtonian evolutions, thus tracking sources from stellar formation to gravitational-wave detection.
