The Impacts of Modeling Choices on the Inference of the Circumgalactic Medium Properties from Sunyaev-Zeldovich Observations

no code implementations3 Mar 2021 Emily Moser, Stefania Amodeo, Nicholas Battaglia, Marcelo A. Alvarez, Simone Ferraro, Emmanuel Schaan

Finally, we show how different fitting models can reproduce parameters of a fiducial profile, and show that the addition of a two-halo term and matching by the mass distribution of the sample are extremely important modeling choices to consider.

Constraining the Baryon Abundance with the Kinematic Sunyaev-Zel'dovich Effect: Projected-Field Detection Using Planck, WMAP, and unWISE

no code implementations1 Feb 2021 Aleksandra Kusiak, Boris Bolliet, Simone Ferraro, J. Colin Hill, Alex Krolewski

Using a new "asymmetric" estimator that combines different foreground-cleaned CMB maps to maximize the signal-to-noise, we measure the kSZ$^2$-galaxy cross-power spectrum for three subsamples of the \emph{unWISE} galaxy catalog, which peak at mean redshifts $z \approx$ 0. 6, 1. 1, and 1. 5, have average halo mass $\sim 1$-$5\times 10^{13}$ $h^{-1} M_{\odot}$, and in total contain over 500 million galaxies.

With up to an order of magnitude lower polarization noise than maps from the Planck satellite, the high-resolution sky maps will constrain cosmological parameters derived from the damping tail, gravitational lensing of the microwave background, the primordial bispectrum, and the thermal and kinematic Sunyaev-Zel'dovich effects, and will aid in delensing the large-angle polarization signal to measure the tensor-to-scalar ratio.

Foreground-immune CMB lensing with shear-only reconstruction

4 code implementations17 Apr 2018 Emmanuel Schaan, Simone Ferraro

CMB lensing from current and upcoming wide-field CMB experiments such as AdvACT, SPT-3G and Simons Observatory relies primarily on temperature, rather than polarization.
