Three favorite dimensions of Andrzej Kossakowski: along his path to a scientific discovery

Some achievements of the late Andrzej Kossakowski in the field of statistical physics and quantum theory are presented. We recall his attempt to find an analytical solution of the 3-dimensional Ising model and present a problem concerning the set of positive maps.
