How Will Your Tweet Be Received? Predicting the Sentiment Polarity of Tweet Replies

1 code implementation21 Apr 2021 Soroosh Tayebi Arasteh, Mehrpad Monajem, Vincent Christlein, Philipp Heinrich, Anguelos Nicolaou, Hamidreza Naderi Boldaji, Mahshad Lotfinia, Stefan Evert

As a strong baseline, we propose a two-stage DL-based method: first, we create automatically labeled training data by applying a standard sentiment classifier to tweet replies and aggregating its predictions for each original tweet; our rationale is that individual errors made by the classifier are likely to cancel out in the aggregation step.

Differentiable Data Augmentation with Kornia

1 code implementation19 Nov 2020 Jian Shi, Edgar Riba, Dmytro Mishkin, Francesc Moreno, Anguelos Nicolaou

In this paper we present a review of the Kornia differentiable data augmentation (DDA) module for both for spatial (2D) and volumetric (3D) tensors.

Spatio-Temporal Handwriting Imitation

2 code implementations24 Mar 2020 Martin Mayr, Martin Stumpf, Anguelos Nicolaou, Mathias Seuret, Andreas Maier, Vincent Christlein

Then, a method for online handwriting synthesis is used to produce a new realistic-looking text primed with the online input sequence.

ICDAR 2019 Competition on Image Retrieval for Historical Handwritten Documents

1 code implementation8 Dec 2019 Vincent Christlein, Anguelos Nicolaou, Mathias Seuret, Dominique Stutzmann, Andreas Maier

This competition investigates the performance of large-scale retrieval of historical document images based on writing style.

Deep Generalized Max Pooling

1 code implementation14 Aug 2019 Vincent Christlein, Lukas Spranger, Mathias Seuret, Anguelos Nicolaou, Pavel Král, Andreas Maier

Global pooling layers are an essential part of Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN).

The Robust Reading Competition Annotation and Evaluation Platform

no code implementations18 Oct 2017 Dimosthenis Karatzas, Lluis Gómez, Anguelos Nicolaou, Marçal Rusiñol

The ICDAR Robust Reading Competition (RRC), initiated in 2003 and re-established in 2011, has become a de-facto evaluation standard for robust reading systems and algorithms.

Improving Text Proposals for Scene Images with Fully Convolutional Networks

1 code implementation16 Feb 2017 Dena Bazazian, Raul Gomez, Anguelos Nicolaou, Lluis Gomez, Dimosthenis Karatzas, Andrew D. Bagdanov

Text Proposals have emerged as a class-dependent version of object proposals - efficient approaches to reduce the search space of possible text object locations in an image.

Redefining Binarization and the Visual Archetype

no code implementations29 Sep 2016 Anguelos Nicolaou, Liwicki Marcus

Although binarization is considered passe, it still remains a highly popular research topic.

Evaluation of the Effect of Improper Segmentation on Word Spotting

no code implementations21 Apr 2016 Sounak Dey, Anguelos Nicolaou, Josep Llados, Umapada Pal

Word spotting is an important recognition task in historical document analysis.

Local Binary Pattern for Word Spotting in Handwritten Historical Document

no code implementations20 Apr 2016 Sounak Dey, Anguelos Nicolaou, Josep Llados, Umapada Pal

Digital libraries store images which can be highly degraded and to index this kind of images we resort to word spot- ting as our information retrieval system.

Improving patch-based scene text script identification with ensembles of conjoined networks

1 code implementation24 Feb 2016 Lluis Gomez, Anguelos Nicolaou, Dimosthenis Karatzas

Instead of resizing input images to a fixed aspect ratio as in the typical use of holistic CNN classifiers, we propose here a patch-based classification framework in order to preserve discriminative parts of the image that are characteristic of its class.

Sparse Radial Sampling LBP for Writer Identification

no code implementations23 Apr 2015 Anguelos Nicolaou, Andrew D. Bagdanov, Marcus Liwicki, Dimosthenis Karatzas

In this paper we present the use of Sparse Radial Sampling Local Binary Patterns, a variant of Local Binary Patterns (LBP) for text-as-texture classification.
