We present and validate a novel method for noise injection of arbitrary spectra in quantum circuits that can be applied to any system capable of executing arbitrary single qubit rotations, including cloud-based quantum processors.

Measurement of electric-field noise from interchangeable samples with a trapped-ion sensor

no code implementations1 Feb 2021 Kyle S. McKay, Dustin A. Hite, Philip D. Kent, Shlomi Kotler, Dietrich Leibfried, Daniel H. Slichter, Andrew C. Wilson, David P. Pappas

We demonstrate the use of a single trapped ion as a sensor to probe electric-field noise from interchangeable test surfaces.

Gate-free state preparation for fast variational quantum eigensolver simulations: ctrl-VQE

2 code implementations10 Aug 2020 Oinam Romesh Meitei, Bryan T. Gard, George S. Barron, David P. Pappas, Sophia E. Economou, Edwin Barnes, Nicholas J. Mayhall

In this work, we propose an alternative algorithm (which we refer to as ctrl-VQE) where the quantum circuit used for state preparation is removed entirely and replaced by a quantum control routine which variationally shapes a pulse to drive the initial Hartree-Fock state to the full CI target state.
