The Southern Photometric Local Universe Survey (S-PLUS) is imaging ~9300 deg^2 of the celestial sphere in twelve optical bands using a dedicated 0. 8 m robotic telescope, the T80-South, at the Cerro Tololo Inter-American Observatory, Chile.

On the realistic validation of photometric redshifts, or why Teddy will never be Happy

Two of the main problems encountered in the development and accurate validation of photometric redshift (photo-z) techniques are the lack of spectroscopic coverage in feature space (e. g. colours and magnitudes) and the mismatch between photometric error distributions associated with the spectroscopic and photometric samples.

The second dataset, optimized for low-redshift studies such as galaxy-galaxy lensing, is limited to r<20, and provides photo-zs of much better quality than in the full-depth case thanks to incorporating optical magnitudes, colours, and sizes in the GAMA-calibrated photo-z derivation.
