Leadership is a process of individuals (leaders) who influence a group to achieve collective goals. In nature, leadership can be viewed as a process of initiation of coordinated activity. In the task of leadership inference, the main goals are to infer leaders, relationships between leaders and followers, as well as the process of leaders use to influence the group to achieve collective decisions. In machine learning, leadership inference can be viewed as a problem of finding a latent multi-agent system that governs behaviors of group of individuals from data.

Variable-lag Granger Causality for Time Series Analysis

DarkEyes/VLTimeSeriesCausality 18 Dec 2019

Typical operationalizations of Granger causality make a strong assumption that every time point of the effect time series is influenced by a combination of other time series with a fixed time delay.

Variable-lag Granger Causality and Transfer Entropy for Time Series Analysis

DarkEyes/VLTimeSeriesCausality 1 Feb 2020

We demonstrate our approaches on an application for studying coordinated collective behavior and other real-world casual-inference datasets and show that our proposed approaches perform better than several existing methods in both simulated and real-world datasets.

Coordination Event Detection and Initiator Identification in Time Series Data

CompBioUIC/FLICA 4 Mar 2016

Behavior initiation is a form of leadership and is an important aspect of social organization that affects the processes of group formation, dynamics, and decision-making in human societies and other social animal species.

Framework for Inferring Following Strategies from Time Series of Movement Data

CompBioUIC/CoordinationModelSelectionFramework 4 Nov 2019

Given a set of time series that includes coordinated movement and a set of candidate strategies as inputs, we provide the first methodology (to the best of our knowledge) to infer whether each individual uses local-agreement-system or dictatorship-like strategy to achieve movement coordination at the group level.

mFLICA: An R package for Inferring Leadership of Coordination From Time Series

DarkEyes/mFLICA 10 Apr 2020

Leadership is a process that leaders influence followers to achieve collective goals.
