Microscopy images of shrub cross sections for instance segmentation of tree rings.

Tree rings are used in dendroecology to reconstruct past climate. Shrubs are of special importance for climate reconstruction in the Arctic as they are the only plants with tree rings that can grow there. From a computer vision point of view, the task of detecting of shrub tree rings in microscopy images is a special case of the instance segmentation problem with several unique challenges such as the concentric ring shape of the objects.

This dataset provides 213 high resolution microscopy images split into 3 subsets according to species for further advancements in this area.
