We perform the first quantitative simulation of a $3\pi$ time domain survey to estimate the Galactic nova rate using PGIR, and derive a rate of $\approx 46\pm13$ yr$^{-1}$.

In this work we report on our initial attempt to reduce statistical errors in weak lensing shear estimation using a machine learning approach -- training a multi-layered convolutional neural network to directly estimate the shear given an observed background galaxy image.

Here, we build on these results and derive from first principles a coaddition technique which is optimal for any hypothesis testing and measurement (e. g., source detection, flux or shape measurements and star/galaxy separation), in the background-noise-dominated case.

We show that for these purposes the best way to combine images is to apply a matched filter to each image using its own point spread function (PSF) and only then to sum the images with the appropriate weights.
