We discuss dynamics of massive Klein-Gordon fields in two-dimensional Anti-de Sitter spacetimes ($AdS_2$), in particular conserved quantities and non-modal instability on the future Poincar\'e horizon called, respectively, the Aretakis constants and the Aretakis instability.
